The difficulties regarding maintaining a healthy work-life balance is a growing problem and there are many reasons behind this. The rise in working from home makes distinguishing a work and life environment ever more difficult.

We are constantly on our phones, receiving work notifications at all times of the day. The widespread belief that being constantly busy is something to take pride in. Ultimately all these reasons, and more, contribute to a number of negative outcomes, that many of us have experienced.

Overcoming these challenges and successfully creating a balance between work and life is of utmost importance. The effects not only include better health and lower stress, but also play a big role in one’s relationships, and even in productivity and performance levels.

Achieving this is no easy task, however, the steps below will help you get on the right path to a happier, healthier, and more productive life:

  1. Set boundaries between home and work. When work is over, change out of your work clothes. Take some time to change your mentality and come out of work mode. This can be achieved by doing something as simple as listening to music, spending time with your family, or going for a walk.
  2. Become unreachable outside of work hours. Don’t bend to the pressures of feeling like you must immediately reply to everyone that contacts you. Once work is done, switch off your notifications and stop checking your work email. This will greatly reduce your stress levels.
  3. Stop feeling the need to constantly do things. Life is not all about doing tasks and ticking items off a list. Living like this will deplete your energy, and stop you doing the things that really matter. Don’t allow yourself to feel regretful later down the line.
  4. Schedule yourself efficiently. Block out your time at the beginning of each week, setting out specifically when you will do each task. Following a schedule within your working hours will help ensure you don’t go overtime. Structure is everything.

These 4 starting steps may seem simple, but if followed will have a great impact on your life. How will your life change if you implement them right now? Let’s go!
