Today, being the 21st December is the Winter Solstice when the day is the shortest and the night the longest. It is also the day the sun stops moving south and starts to slowly move north again making the days longer.
The sun, the source of daylight and warmth influences all life on earth. In the ancient traditions, the sun is called ‘Father’ and the earth ‘Mother’, both provide and give life to all that live on the earth including you and me!
In our busy lives, we sometimes take for granted what we have naturally provided for us. The things we value the most that we expect to be there automatically like clean air, water, healthy food, our forests, and oceans. All these cannot be expected to be there any longer as humanity has forgotten how to live on earth. Our natural resources are slowly being eroded away to the detriment of our children and children’s children.
“When we recognise the virtues, the talent, the beauty of Mother Earth, something is born in us, some kind of connection, love is born.” – Thich Naht Hanh
